MUMBAI: The upcoming film, Malaal marks lyricist Prashant Ingole’s first movie for which, he has penned the entire album (six songs). He had earlier written three songs for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani.

Sharing his journey, Prashant says, “The music making of Malaal started almost one and a half year ago or more. It was a long process and we slowly started cracking one song after the other. I was actually on board for writing a romantic song, which is the first song, I wrote for Malaal. Then suddenly, sir (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) called me and we cracked Aila Re. While Aila Re was still under process, there was another song, which came to me. This led to the fourth, fifth and sixth song of the film. Everything fell into place and slowly from one song, I ended up doing the entire album.”

On being asked, how different each song is from the other, Ingole further adds, “I can’t disclose the names of the songs as of now, but I can disclose their genres for sure. As we all know, India is very colourful and many festivals, the songs of Malaal also have different flavours.”

“While Aila Re showcases the colour of the lead character, his madness, there is a romantic track, which shows the guy falling in love with the female lead. There is another song, which is about celebration,” he reveals.

Speaking about his experience of writing for Malaal, the lyricist exclaims, “It was complete madness, surreal for me to work on this film and write the whole album. I can’t even describe in words because hardly anyone gets to write the complete album of a movie.”

“I have always loved working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir. He is number one in India in every aspect be it music, grandeur, storytelling, the look of the film etc. Sir’s way of making songs is also entirely different,” he expressed on working with Bhansali, who has composed music of Malaal.

On being asked, what response, he anticipates, Ingole says, “We have put in a lot of effort. Eventually, I have deleted the word ‘expectation’ because I believe in karma. One should just keep doing things and not expect anything and just leave it for people to decide because what is meant to happen will happen!

Lastly, Prashant shares, what he aspires to do through his writing. He concludes, “I always wanted to work with people who are passionately mad and do quality work. I want to do quality work. I am a Marathi guy, who wanted to become a chef, but ended up being a lyricist and landed in this industry. I want to create a legacy.”

Meanwhile, Aila Re, sung by Vishal Dadlani and rapped by Shreyas Puranik has garnered over six million views on YouTube.
