MUMBAI: Right from his days of Indian Idol Rahul Vaidya, has been a popular face in the news. In a candid interaction with Radioandmsuic.com’s Dhairya Ingle, the 26 year old talks about his journey as a musician, his new single- ‘Fan’, and his Bollywood career in this week’s musical Rendezvous.
For this 26 year old, a new chapter in his life opened after participating in Indian Idol. Rahul Vaidya reminiscing about the moment of his participation said, “I vividly remember it was 23 September, my birthday, when Aman Verma had come to my college and was encouraging singers to participate in the contest. I went for the auditions and life just took a new turn.”
However, despite ending the contest in third place, not many Bollywood songs have been accredited to his name, to which he said, “I have been very tied up with my stage shows and my main concentration area is shows and non film projects. I have just come up with a single called ‘Fan’”. He admits that the approach towards singing for films is very different. “I have not been able to connect properly with composers, despite being friends with them,” he added. He has, however, sung for a few movies like ‘Shaadi No 1’, which happened to him right after the show and he also sung the unplugged version of ‘Beintahaaan’ from Race 2.

When asked how he dealt with the sudden attention post Indian Idol, all he could so is sing the line, “Kuch toh Log Kahenge.” “I like the way Ranbir Kapoor is. I mean he is extremely detached. He does not get carried away by the compliments nor does he get affected by the criticisms,” he explained.
According to him, the indie scene is improving with time and a couple of years ago it was still tied up. “I personally thank people like Honey Singh and many other singers who have shown their talent in something that is non Bollywood. These are actually the people who have made this space a little more alive. Also with a channel like Pepsi MTV Indies, the space is here to grow. I am sure that even my producers have sent my video to the channel for airing it and I hope it gets picked up since people really like it and it is doing well,” he elaborated.
So what does he have to say about the controversial lyrics used by rapper Honey Singh? “I actually do not care because even if he has used lyrics which are not good, he never forces you to listen to his songs. It is actually we who enjoy dancing to his numbers with a drink in our hands,” he opined. “Honey Singh never, through his songs, endorses the disrespecting women or anything that is obscene; he just brings out the situation to you. People spoke badly about Emran Hashmi too, but today he is one of the most amazing actors we have. If Honey Singh is clean by heart or he does not feel wrong about the kind of lyrics he uses, I think we should not have a problem,” he said.
Vaidya calls himself the busiest artiste when it comes to the stage shows. “I am busy with my shows and I shall be travelling to Thailand, Jaipur, Delhi and a lot of other places. Thus I am so thankful to God and the people around, who have supported me so much,” he sighed.
According to him having a godfather is not necessary, but if you have one well and good. “If you have backing at home you actually know what to do and what not to do. And if u have a ‘what not to do’ list, life becomes easier as you do not end up making mistakes.
When not recording or not in the studio, Vaidya prefers staying at home and lying down and just not doing anything. “I am not a party person. Although I know a lot of people, I am friendly with very few of them. I prefer having my own selective circle of people and being with them. I love going out with my family, so generally I stay indoors,” he concluded.
