BANGALORE: Hulu.com (Hulu) announced recently that it will live-stream a concert performance by the â€?pop’ Dave Matthews Band at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on June 1, 2009, at 9.00 PM (US Eastern Standard Time) The broadcast marks the first entertainment program to be streamed live over the video website.
The concert will be available on-demand for a limited period of time. The webcast is to promote the band’s new album â€?Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King’ to be released the next day. As of now, Hulu can only be viewed by internet users in the United States.
The Dave Matthews Band formed in early 1991, when vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape. The other members of the band were jazz musicians – drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist (late) LeRoi Moore, Stefan Lessard (bass). Completing the band was keyboard player Peter Griesar, who left after a couple of years, and classically trained violinist, Boyd Tinsley.
Some of Matthews first few compositions include â€?I’ll Back You Up’, â€?The Song that Jane Likes’ and â€?Recently’.
Disney recently acquired an equal equity stake in Hulu – a broadband video venture co-owned by founders Fox and NBC.
