MUMBAI: One of world’s most reputed music school, the LA based Musicians Institute (MI) will make its first recruiting drive in India this year with an exhibit at Musician Expo at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai June 3-5, 2010.
MI’s participation at the exhibit will be a great opportunity for music students in India to pursue the dream of studying contemporary music from a music school that has given the world virtuoso musicians like John Frusciante, Frank Gambale among many others.
Speaking to radioandmusic.com about Musicians Institutes India focus, Outreach Manager Travis Johnson, who will be coming to India for the recruit says, “MI is making efforts to increase its international student body India is a growing economy and we recognize that our contemporary music, recording and film education will appeal to Indian students.”

So far, a significant number of Indian musicians have studied at MI.However, for most Indian musicians who want to study at MI, the costs still remain high. “We do offer a variety of talent-based scholarships that are open to international students,” the representative points out
While the institute has its branch in Japan, on being asked if MI has any plans for the Indian subcontinent, he says, “We do not plan to open a school in India What makes MI unique is its location Hollywood is the center of the music and entertainment industry and there are many opportunities here for artistic and professional growth.”
MI is known to have some of world’s best musicians as faculties – Scott Henderson, Paul Gilbert, T.J. Helmerich, John Humphrey and Joel Taylor to name a few. Representative Travis Johnson himself is a graduate of MI’s Percussion program, and has worked in the Admissions and Marketing departments of the school for over 10 years.
In addition to Musician Expo, the MI representative will be traveling to Bangalore, Chennai, Punjab and Delhi to promote MI’s unique music programs.
