Guitarist Guthrie Govan to perform in Mumbai, Chennai

MUMBAI: One of the UK’s most remarkable guitarists, Guthrie Govan will be performing and conducting guitar workshops in India starting from Mumbai on 29 May 2010 and  Chennai on 30 May 2010.

On the visit, Govan will be conducting a guitar clinic, followed by a performance.

For those who don’t know, Govan is known for his work with the bands like Asia (2001-2006), GPS, The Young Punx and The Fellowship as well as Erotic Cakes (a vehicle for his own music). He is also a noted guitar teacher with the UK magazine Guitar Techniques, Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music, and currently at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. He came into the limelight after winning  Guitarist magazine’s ‘Guitarist of the Year’ competition.

The versatile guitar player is brought down by Bhargava’s Musik, a Mumbai based musical instrument store in association with RotoSound Strings. Bhargava’s had previously brought down musicians like drummer Virgil Donati and Australian gutarist Brett Garsed in collaboration with the Sandeep Chowta projects.

While it would have cost a few dollars to watch Guthrie perform in any other part of the world, Bhargava’s has organized this
workshop-cum-performance session for free (with prior registration) for music enthusiasts.

Drummer Gino Banks, and bassist Sheldon D’Silva will also be performing a set at Govan’s Mumbai session.

Last month bassist Victor Wooten conducted a workshop in Mumbai. Though Govan is only visiting two cities on this leg, interests of these world renowned musicians in India surely hint at good times ahead for serious music lovers.
