Goa to hold Abhisheki music fest this week

MUMBAI: Veterans of Indian classical music will converge in Goa to participate in Pandit Jitendra Abhishekhi Musical Festival to be held on 12 and 13 September.

Pandit Abhishekhi, a Goa-born nationally famed classical music genius, is hailed for single-handedly reviving the Marathi musical theatre in 1960s.

“The festival in Goa is not only for entertainment value but also to instill a sense of classical music in younger generation and introduce them to various gharanas,” a spokesperson for the organisers told PTI.

Goa Kala Academy has been holding the festival in honour of the maestro since 1998.

The late classical vocalist was born at Mangueshi village in Goa and later settled in Mumbai.
