MUMBAI: Independent singer, songwriter and the finalist of Amazon Prime show, The Remix, Thomson Andrews has released a funky hop-hop Ganapti song, Morya, on the occasion of the ongoing Ganesh festival. The pop-soul and Bollywood playback singer has collaborated with rappers crew, Mtown Breakers, who hail from the Dharavi Project clan.
Speaking about this unique concept, Thomson Andrews said, “As a song writer, I always wanted to do something for Ganpati, a festival that marks a huge celebration in Mumbai. Also, my friends and family are huge fans of Ganesha. I was deciding on the making of the song and made its music first.”
“A friend connected me to these amazing wrappers called M-Town Brakers group. One of the rappers sang a fantastic rap on Ganesha, which he had it ready for crooning. They are quite spot on, we just got into the studio and recorded the whole track. I landed up producing the track, which came out so well. Also, since this group knows b-boying and dancing, we decided to include those elements in the song. We, thus, got into one of the friends campus, shot the video and its being played at all Ganpati pandals,” he further added.

Highlighting the speciality of the song, he exclaimed, “I think this song is celebratory, yet a trippy song, different from that usually made for Lord Ganesha. It’s about enjoying spiritual music in a new format, which I find exciting. It is a song that is different, both, to watch as well as dance on in India.”
The lyrics are written by M Town Breakers, but the song is composed by Thomson, who has also produced the song. On his association with Mtown Breakers, he said, “I always wanted to do something with the Dharavi hip-hop movement, a youth movement, which is not yet evolved in India. They are three rappers in M Town Breakers, who have worked with Ranveer Singh on Gully Boy. When my friend introduced me to their crew and showed their work with Ranveer, I wanted to do a song together as they sound different.”
“They are quite spot on as we are ready with some other songs with them, which we will be releasing slowly in the near future. I wanted to collaborate with the underground hip-hop independent artists from Dharavi as I am also an independent artist. This was a very fun, small amazing track and all the radio channels are playing it,” he signed off.
Morya is indeed a new approach to devotional song, made for Ganpati. The video is available on the official YouTube handle of Thomson Andrews.
