MUMBAI: The country’s premiere rocker Gary Lawyer will play a tribute concert to two of his heroes- Elvis Presley and the Doors frontman Jim Morrison.
The show which will take place at Chennai’s Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetpet on 15 September will have Lawyer’s seven-member band including their sound engineer belting out the two legend’s numbers to the city fans.
“We are having problems with deciding what numbers to play with all the hits between the two. We shall be playing medleys to save time,” Lawyer told Radioandmusic.com.
Lawyer is however sure that the tribute concert will be well attended by Chennai’s rock aficionados.
“We have played full houses in Mumbai and Pune and we have been told there’s enough of a buzz in Chennai.”
Lawyer doesn’t want to be drawn to comparing his two heroes who have had a huge influence in popular music.
“Without Elvis the world wouldn’t have rock, Disco or even DJs. He was the biggest influence on popular music. The Doors to me are the most innovative band with each member having their own influences. Jim had one of the most beautiful voices that could give out venom and sweetness.”
