MUMBAI: Subscribers for one of the leading music services in India, Gaana, accessed the app in English on their smartphones. However, with the intention to create a more user-friendly upgrade, Gaana will now be accessible in nine Indian languages.
The new languages added include Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri. Originally, the app was only available in English.
The app provided content according to the user’s language preferences however, the interface had been in English only. This development effectively allows any Gaana user to choose from one of the nine familiar Indian languages. The new users will be prompted to select their language while signing up while the existing consumer can change the preference through ‘Settings’.

It is important to note that only Android users will be able to cherish the newly added elements so far, as the upgrade on iPhone will happen soon.
COO of Gaana, Prashan Agarwal said, “Gaana’s mission has always been to bring the best music experience to all of India. Gaana reaches over 25 million consumers, but is now finally usable for hundreds of millions of Indians who can’t read English. This is one of multiple initiatives by us to provide value to all Indians across India and the world.”
With music services finding innovative and unique ways to lead the competition, Gaana’s approach surely will lead to ease-in-access for users across regions, thus helping in its ease-in-penetration to tier 2 and tier 3 consumer markets.
