MUMBAI: Not long ago singer and television presenter Sugandha Mishra made headlines for mimicking veteran crooner Lata Mangeshkar at an award show. While this upset a few artistes from the industry, it did not upset Mishra. Instead she was happy that her act reached Mangeshkar, who was thoroughly entertained with it and even expressed the desire to meet Mishra.
“One of our mutual friends from the industry went to her house and showed her the video clipping in which I mimicked her, and she was amused by my act. She even expressed the desire to meet me. I have not yet spoken to her personally, but I am happy she took is sportingly,” said Mishra. She also revealed that Mangeshkar herself is a great mimicry artist. “Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Asha Bhosale too are great at mimicking people. Actually everyone who learns music can mimic people because music is all about training a voice,” added Mishra.
Being a trained classical musician, she also intends to start a music academy in future in the name of her grandfather, who was also her guru. “Not everyone is privileged to learn music like me at home. There are a lot of academies in Mumbai which are started by artists and usually, they charge a bomb. Students enroll their names only because it is an academy which belongs to a famous name. However, the artist only shows his or her face once in a few months, and the teachers also teach for the sake of it,” she added. Mishra revealed that she is waiting for the right time to start the academy.

Currently, she is also part of the show called ‘BIG Garmi Ki Chhutti’ on Big FM. “I was a part of Big FM a long time ago and now coming back to the same place is always great. My segment is in the 6 – 7pm time slot and I will be on radio to tickle your funny bone. I will also mimic a few people on radio,” Mishra said.
‘BIG Garmi Ki Chhutti’ will be aired across all 45 stations of Big FM.
