MUMBAI: On August 11, Sony Music India released the first track from the highly anticipated art-house comedy ‘Finding Fanny’ called ‘Fanny Re’. The track which is also the title track is composed by French multi-instrumentalist and composer Mathias Duplessy, and features vocals by well known Sufi singer Mukhtiyar Ali. Duplessy is well known for his work on the Cesar Award nominated film ‘Mascarades’ and a few niche Indian films such as ‘Bombay Summer’, ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘Delhi in a Day’. In addition to producing the songs for the film, Duplessy has also scored the film.
Duplessy took time off his busy schedule to talk to Radioandmusic.com about his composition for the film. He has given traditional Goan music a new take in the track ‘Fanny Re’. Duplessy has incorporated French, Italian and Portuguese music with Sufi to create a unique and catchy tune. In addition to ‘Fanny Re’, Duplessy has composed three more songs for the film. “A Brazilian song, a wedding song and a sad Portuguese song,” he said. He further went on to say that his experience working with Homi Adajania was “funny”.
Finding Fanny chronicles around five Goans who set off on a road trip in search of an old postman’s childhood love, Stefanie “Fanny” Fernandes, even though nobody knows whether she is alive, dead or just a figment of someone’s imagination. However, en route, the five friends get lost, and the journey – originally intended to take 20 minutes – instead takes one and a half days.
