MUMBAI: Scott Weiland, the former vocalist for rock band- Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, has passed away, it has been revealed on the musician’s official Facebook page early on Friday, 4 December 2015. The post on the social network revealed that the singer died while in his sleep.

The ‘Modzilla’ singer, and his latest band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, were set to start touring this month, and had upcoming dates for Reno, NV on 18 December, and City Winery in Napa on 19 December.

Reports state the Weiland’s manager has also confirmed his death. His wife, Jamie Weiland, also confirmed the news to the Los Angeles Times, stating that the news was true, and she could not “deal with this right now.”
The singer, who turned 48 in October this year, is said to have fought substance abuse issues for a long time. According to reports, he was found dead on his tour bus. A statement issued by The Bloomington, Minn. Police Department said that officers responded to a call about an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle. “Officers arrived and determined the adult male was deceased,” the statement read.
News of the singer’s death began circulating when Dave Navarro – guitarist from rock band Jane’s Addiction- tweeted about Weiland’s death on Thursday night. However, the tweet was soon deleted.
A number of musicians have paid tribute to the singer on social media, including former band mate- Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver, Alice Cooper, Nikki Sixx (bassist of MÖTLEY CRÜE), and Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides, amongst others.

Weiland, who was born Scott Richard Kline, was born in California, and changed his surname to Weiland at the age of five after his stepfather’s name. He rose to fame in the 90s, after helping form Stone Temple Pilots with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo. He achieved mainstream success with the band from 1986 to 2013. He later went on to join supergroup- Velvet Revolver, which was formed by former Guns N’ Roses guitarist- Slash, along with other big names like Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Dave Kushner. He was also an established solo artist, releasing a number of albums over the years.
