MUMBAI: Charles Allen, the former chief executive of ITV, has been appointed non-executive chairman of EMI Music, the company behind Katy Perry and Coldplay.
Allen was appointed by Guy Hands, whose Terra Firma private equity group bought the ailing music company in a highly leveraged ?4bn deal just before credit markets turned. Citigroup financed the buy-out.
The post adds to an already chunky portfolio of non-executive roles including those at Virgin Media and Endemol, the Big Brother producer. Allen is also a senior adviser to the private equity arm of Goldman Sachs.
In 2007, he became the chairman of Global Radio, which is now the UK’s largest commercial radio group following the acquisition of Chrysalis and GCap Media.
