MUMBAI: ‘Aashiqui 2’ composer, Jeet Gannguli, has worked on only a couple of projects in Bollywood during 2014. These include one track ‘Sunona Sangemarmar’ from the film ‘Youngistaan’ and the film ‘Citylights’, both of which topped chartbusters and were appreciated by audiences as well. But the lack of projects in 2014 does not bother him.
“Actually this is what I believe in. I do not want to compose for 20 films and end up doing a mediocre song or an album. Last year I got a lot of accolades for ‘Aashiqui 2’ and this year also I have got great responses for ‘Sunona Sangemarmar’ and ‘Muskurane’ from ‘Citylights’. Nevertheless I was disappointed with a few classical based songs as they were not promoted enough,” said the composer.
However, Gannguli wishes to continue making songs that are based on Indian classical music. He recently composed a couple of songs for the film ‘Khamoshiyan’, for which the title track and another track- ‘Tu Har Lamha’ from the film have been sung by Arijit Singh.

“For the first time Mukesh Bhattji did not give me a brief and he just asked me to compose music of silence. He said that even silence has a lot of words, so I went back home and thought about the music. I finally composed something late into the night and made Bhattji listen to the tune over the phone,” he explained.
Citing the reason for Arijit Singh crooning the number, Gannguli said, “Arijit Singh is one singer who has a voice which sounds amazing, particularly for songs that have a classical base, which is why we opted for him.”
The film ‘Khamoshiyan’ is directed by Karan Darra and will be released at the end of January 2015.
