MUMBAI: Florence and the Machine has been announced as a replacement for Foo Fighters at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The ‘Shake It Out’ hitmakers will headline the Pyramid stage on Friday, 26 June, in place of Foo Fighters after frontman Dave Grohl’s recent injury led the band to cancel all of its upcoming live performances.
In a statement on the Glastonbury website, the festival said, “We are very pleased to announce that Florence + The Machine will play the Friday night Pyramid headline slot, which Foo Fighters were forced to withdraw from yesterday.”

Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis said, “Once we heard the sad news that Foo Fighters had been forced to pull out, there was only one person we wanted to call and that was Florence. Every time she has played here she’s done something spectacular and we always knew she would headline the Pyramid one day. I’m delighted she’s agreed to step up to it – she’s going to smash it!”
Florence and the Machine will return to the popular music festival after five years. In the past, the band has played at Glastonbury in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
A revised list of the set timings at the Pyramid Stage for Friday will be announced soon, the Glastonbury Festival website added.
