MUMBAI: The Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association has convened a campaign on behalf of film producers to secure outstanding royalties from music companies and settle grievances against labels, satellite television channels, FM radio channels and satellite radio channels.
According to Anand Girdhar, who is the convenor of the IMPPA campaign, film producers have not been paid music royalties for several films over the years. Apart from a few companies that hold outright rights for music of films, there are many others which need to pay royalties to producers but have not been doing so, he avers. The second factor that is hurting the film producers is lack of knowledge about broadcast laws and royalty collection that satellite television channels have taken advantage of, he says.
Girdhar says that while the complaints are long standing, it is only now that the IMPPA has decided to call on producers to file their complaints so that the association can put up an united front.

The IMPPA has now asked all members who have grievances pending against music companies and TV and radio channels to get in touch with the campaign convenor.
