MUMBAI: Just like the FIFA World Cup has gripped millions of people around the globe, so it has become a topic of interest for Bollywood singer- Shaan. A lover of sports, the ‘Chand Sifarish’ singer often stays up all night to catch up on the matches.
Shaan who who has been rather vocal about the World Cup on Twitter said, “Yes I do watch the FIFA world cup when I am at home, and these days the kids have had holidays, so I keep up with the matches.”
When asked who his favourite player is, he promptly replied, “See normally we often go with the big players, but if you see the Mexican goal keeper Guillermo Ochoa is also good. But Lionel Messi happens to be my all time favourite.”Apart from being an outstanding singer, Shaan was also good at sports. “I was a good athlete and enjoyed sports like football and hockey.

So would he mind if his kids take up a career in sport? “No, I would not mind if they choose sports as a career, but they actually need to be that good.”He believes that as an individual nothing much can be done to promote a sport. “Merely by making a song or by sponsoring a team, does not actually help contributing to a sport. At the end of the day, it is the Ministry who needs to take an action. Dola Banerjee, the archer happens to be my cousin and having participated in the Olympics; she comes back with horrible stories and often tells stories about the way they have to fight for basic infrastructure.”
Shaan feels Germany and Argentina will end up playing the finals.
