MUMBAI: Farhan Akhtar had a ‘lively’ 2016 as long as music is considered. The traditional live tours, performance at Global Citizen India and the headlining effort at Bacardi NH7 Weekender have helped the director-turned-actor’s growth as a musician through his act ‘Farhan Live’ even further.
The latest developments suggest that the 42-year-old artist will release his debut EP in 2017. Confirming the news, FarOut Media’s co-founder and Akhtar’s bandmate Anurag Rao informed, “We are working on the compositions right now. Early January, we will head to France and work on the production for the EP. There would be four or five songs that Farhan (Akhtar) and James (Sanger) together have worked on. James will also be co-producing the EP.” Reports in Mumbai Mirror suggest that ‘folk’ will be the underlying genre for the EP.
18 times Grammy award winning British producer James Sanger will also contribute towards the yet-to-be-titled EP as a co-writer. Known for his associations with U2, Dido, Keane and Phil Collins, Akhtar’s EP will become Sanger’s first Indian project. The EP, sung entirely in English, is expected to release in mid 2017.

“Right now, no record labels or services have approached us. And we do not follow that pattern either. The focus, currently, remains on the compositions. Later, we will look into our options. We could tie-up a label or distribute digitally on our own,” concluded Rao.
