MUMBAI: In a bid to review institutional framework of Prasar Bharati, the expert committee headed by Sam Pitroda and appointed by the government, has sought suggestions from the public on issues related to the national broadcaster.
The committee invites views from the public on aspects which it is reviewing. Headed by Prime Minister’s adviser on public information infrastructure and innovations Sam Pitroda, it invites views from public, industry, private sector, experts and more.
The panel’s terms of reference include sustaining, strengthening and amplification of Prasar Bharati’s role as a public broadcaster with a special reference to its relationship with government.

The committee is also making a review of the status of implementation of recommendations made by various committees that have undertaken the study of Prasar Bharati earlier, and suggesting a roadmap to enhance its reach and potential. It has set up 11 working groups to examine a range of issues including financing to the national public service broadcaster and its relationship with the government. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the seven-member committee.
Also aiming to preserve its vast catalogue of content, the committee is trying for digitization of the archival material in the possession of Doordarshan and All India Radio. The material includes content from the Independence movement era. Apart from that, they also aim for development of enabling infrastructure and use of new media to deliver digital content.
A statement released by Prasar Bharati stated that the committee had decided to study all relevant areas including the Prasar Bharati-government relationship, technology, business development, finance, human resources, content, programming, archiving, presence on new media platforms, global initiatives, regulatory mechanism and comparison with other public service broadcasters.
The statement invites interested persons to mail their suggestions by 14 April through the broadcaster’s online feedback form on its official website or through post.
