NEW DELHI: German composer Ingo Frenzel was awarded the best orchestral score for ‘Der Medicus’, while French electronic musician Oizo received the award for best electro-acoustic score for ‘Wrong Cops’ at the Grand Scores event organised by the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA) earlier this week in Berlin.
Frenzel has composed for numerous German language film productions and film music. In 1994, he wrote the first film score for ‘My dear husband’ and for the feature film debut of Philipp Stölzl under the title ‘Baby’. For his soundtrack to ‘Lollipop Monster’, which was released in 2011, Frenzel received the Award of the German Film Critics.
Oizo is the stage name of film director Quentin Dupieux. The pseudonym is a corruption of the French oiseau, meaning “bird”. He is currently signed to Ed Banger Records & Brainfeeder.
The Exceptional Creative Partnership in Film Music was presented to Alberto Iglesias and Pedro Almodovar. The celebration ended with the Outstanding Contribution Award to film music composer Mychael Danna.

The seated dinner and ceremony offered the opportunity for professional music composers and other industry representatives to reunite around the craftsmanship of film music making.
ECSA, as the organisation representing Film and Audio-visual composers and songwriters on the European level, was the official content partner of this high-end event. The role of the Alliance was to develop a fair and well thought-out selection procedure ahead of the award ceremony, as well as to put together a jury in charge of selecting the winners for the Best Orchestral and Best Electro-Acoustic scores.
An expert group within ECSA also handpicked the awardees for the Outstanding Contribution, designed to honour the lifetime work of film music composer, and of the Exceptional Creative Partnership, which celebrated the incredible collaboration of a composer and director throughout the years. ECSA brought its intimate knowledge of music writing, its expertise and its legitimacy as a European organisation to the table.
ECSA represents over 23,000 professional composers and songwriters in more than 20 European countries. With 45 member organisations all across Europe, the Alliance speaks for the interests of music writers of art and classical music, film and audiovisual music as well as popular music.
ECSA has been appointed as sole content partner for the Grand Scores celebrations. In its capacity, ECSA is responsible for nominating composers who will be celebrated for their work and talent during the Grand Scores night.
