MUMBAI: Eminem has for the second time, collected a Digital Diamond Award, making him the first artiste to achieve the feat. The Grammy winning rapper’s 2010 release ‘Not Afraid’ surpassed the 10 million mark in digital streams and sales in the US, earning him recognition from The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) once again.
The ‘Lose Yourself’ rapper previously won a digital diamond certification for ‘Love the Way You Lie’, a duet with pop superstar Rihanna. The 11x multi platinum single, which is from the same album ‘Recovery’, was released a few months after ‘Not Afraid’ and became one of 2010’s best tracks.
Speaking about Eminem’s milestone, RIAA CEO and chairman Cary Sherman said, “We are delighted to recognise Eminem as the first artist to earn two RIAA Digital Diamond Awards. This singular achievement – earning a Diamond Award on two separate digital songs – is unparalleled, and we congratulate him on forever etching a mark in Gold & Platinum Program history.”
Along with the two diamond honours, the 41 year old also has two 10x multi-Platinum Diamond certified albums ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ (2000) and ‘The Eminem Show’ (2002). The rapper’s RIAA album awards career includes over 37 million sales in the US, and he has more than 31 million digital single certifications, including streams and downloads, spanning 10 different tracks.
Later this year, Eminem will kick off his ‘The Monster’ tour alongside Rihanna. The duo will perform at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on 7 and 8 August, Giants Stadium in East Rutherford on 16 and 17 August and commence the North American segment in his hometown of Detroit at Comerica Park on 22 and 23 August.
