MUMBAi: Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA) – an association aimed at bringing all those who are part of the growing event and entertainment sector on one platform was formally launched in Mumbai on 27 April.
The pan Indian association is spread across four zones (North, East, West,South) and will be presided over by Micheal Menezes of Showtime Events.
Although the body has been in existence for a while now and has been taking up cudgels on behalf of event organisers and entertainment companies, the EEMA has decided to formally launch itself only now. Said EEMA President Michael Menezes, The formation of EEMA is an important milestone for the Indian experiential marketing industry. EEMA’s existence has already led to increased cooperation and support between our organisations and helped the body to effectively function as the voice and advocate of our industry…. Over 100 leading players in the event industry like Wizcraft, DNA Networks, Showtime, Fountainhead, Showbiz, Encompass, Percept de Mark and 360 degress, among others have been active members of the EEMA.
The key issues and priorities for EEMA include representations to government on various taxation anomalies and licensing
roadblocks, adopting a legal route to sort out the unfair trade practices of the music industry and setting in motion several
workforce development initiatives.
From the above challenges, licensing and royalties seem to top the list. EEMA has already filed a case against PPL and IPRS in the Delhi High Court demanding transperancy from the two bodies in July 2008, “We are open for dialogue, all we ask is transparency from the PPL and IPRS” said Menezes
