MUMBAI: British singer/ songwriter Ed Sheeran has made it to the top of the UK singles chart for the very first time with his latest release ‘Sing’. The track, which first came out on 7 April, replaced Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’, which has dropped to number two on the chart, and in third place this week is Secondcity’s ‘I Wanna Feel’.
‘Sing’ is the lead single from Sheeran’s upcoming album ‘x’, which is expected to release later this month. Speaking about the achievement, the 23 year old said, “It’s fantastic. It’s nice to finally have a number 1 in my home country. Thank you to everyone who supported the single for making this happen.”
The ‘Kiss Me’ singer has so far had four tracks from his debut album ‘+’ make it to the top 10 UK singles chart. These include ‘The A Team’, ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’, ‘Lego House’ and ‘Drunk’.

On the UK albums chart front, Sam Smith remains in the top spot for a second week with his debut studio album ‘In The Lonely Hour’. Coming in second on the chart is 97 year old- Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘Vera Lynn: National Treasure’, and makes British history as she becomes the oldest living artiste to make it to the Top 20. The album, which marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day celebrations, first entered the charts at number 13.
