MUMBAI: It was hailed as the ‘Woodstock of India’ and was to have livened up the beginning of 2010 in the national capital, but the Eastwind Music Festival has just announced that the January 2010 festival has been cancelled.
The festival that was scheduled for the last week of January 2010, was expecting participation from close to 60 national and international bands over a period of three days.
A note on the official website hints that the festival was unable to take off due to the economic situation, “the market conditions do not appear to be conducive for us to do justice to a project of the size and scale we have envisaged. With highly stated aims and objectives, the board is keen on ensuring that its market entry is poised for a time when the Festival sees a lot more traction from sponsors.”

After just one successful year in 2008, the fate of the festival looks unsure. However the official note does mention that, the Festival will continue to work on securing the next edition of the festival and re-strategize a “launch-to-scale” model. Interestingly, Eastwind are also in discussions with the India Jazz Festival (of the heritage of the acclaimed Java Jazz Festival) for a potential merger aimed at working on the delivery of multiple festivals annually.

According to sources, The festival will most likely take place in October 2010 now.
