MUMBAI: After releasing songs like Whats it all about? and Glitter and Dynamite, Indian-origin Singapore based Druv Kent has come up with his sixth single called Back Home. The lyrically charged song was recorded in The United Kingdom and released in mid-November to the amazing response by the audience. The producers of this song are Simon Edwards and Callum MacColl, who have worked with legends like Ronan Keating and the video of the song has been directed by Puneet Rakheja.
Sharing about the song, Druv says, “The song is about going home that place where we feel at home, where we can stay with any judgments. When I started to think about the song, I thought of home to be a physical place, but soon I realized that home is more of a feeling. Being an Indian who stays abroad, this became more of a personal story to me too.”

On being asked what according to him makes Back Home different from his earlier five releases, the singer reveals, “Sometimes it’s the production style and sometimes what you have to say. Often, it’s both and in this case it is both of these things that make the song different.”
Continuing he adds, “Many of my songs are narratives, like my song, Little bit of God is about belief. The concept of belief is not new to Indians but in the UK it was very unique. And the song being in English made a difference. Each song has a different purpose and sonic value.”
Coming back to Back Home, the song also has an amazing video shot by Prateik. About the video, Druv says, “It was an emotional experience as we actually shot at my home, Kolkata. Also, the whole video was shot in Guerrilla style and logistically not very easy. But what’s more important is that we had an immense amount of fun. The whole of Kolkata was gawking at Wonder woman outfit worn by characters in the middle of the Park Street. It was great fun.”
The response to the video has been tremendous. On this, he exclaims, “The feeling of home is universal. Take us Indians, we are scattered all over the world. For example, people in Mumbai not necessarily are born in Mumbai. That’s why it is easy for people to identify with this song, as the longing for home is universal. The response has been, heart-warming and touching.”
Commenting on the type of music he likes to make, “A lot of songs these days are about the last break-up or the party that occured last Friday or the catalog of party cities across the globe. I personally like this kind of music but the music I want to create is what makes us feel or moves us. If that kind of music can get popular, then nothing like it.”

According to him, composing music is extremely magical and addictive, “It is unpredictable, subconscious, and joyous when it works. It is equally frustrating and challenging when it is not working out. However, when it is working, it surprises with the kind of compositions that comes out. Inspiration comes from the smallest and largest things. A certain smell, breathe of air, dhol being played in some corner, anything could inspire and trigger. Inspiration could come from anywhere and more importantly when you are looking for it.”
Druv shares his future plans, “Apart from doing gigs across the globe, I am working on my next song, which is being finalized for a 2019 release in The UK and internationally. Composing work for some Bollywood movies is also underway. Also, there a series of singles for music producer friends from Sweden.”
