MUMBAI: Dolby Laboratories has withdrawn its patent infringement lawsuit against Research in Motion (RIM) as the BlackBerry maker inked a licensing deal to utilize Dolby’s audio compression technologies.
In June, Dolby sued RIM seeking financial damages for past infringements and sales injunctions on Blackberry smartphones and Playbook tablets. Dolby claimed that RIM used its audio compression technologies without obtaining licenses.
Dolby stated that both lawsuits have now been dismissed following the agreement with RIM. The detail terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The company has been developing various audio compression formats for smartphones, portable music players and tablets offering high quality audio with limited transmission and storage space.
