MUMBAI: Seems like online music streaming site Dhingana has met the same fate as Flipkart’s ‘Flyte’ and has closed down its operations. The site put up a message for users trying to access it which reads, “Goodbye! We hope that you enjoyed listening to Dhingana as much as we enjoyed building it. But alas, all good things must come to an end. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us be a part of your musical moments! – The Dhingana Team”.
Speculation about the site stopping its service first emerged in December 2013, which was later followed by reports of T-Series refusing to renew its streaming license for Dhingana. At the time, the streaming service was rumoured to be restructuring. However, it is likely that the site has shut down due to declining revenue.
Dhingana had, since its establishment in 2007, developed iOS, Android and even Windows 8 apps in order to make music more easily accessible to users. Last year, it had also introduced a new site and logo, and partnered with Idea Cellular and G-Mobi.

It offered a library of over 1 million free on-demand songs, in over 42 Indian languages and genres. Dhingana was founded by twin brothers, Snehal and Swapnil Shinde along with Sushil Choudhari. Swapnil had stepped down as the CEO of the company last year, to handover the post to Rohit Bhatia.
With the closure of Dhingana, the future of online music streaming services will be looked at very closely. Prior to Dhingana and Flyte, In.com- a Network18 music streaming site, closed down last November. This leaves only three other main music streaming services in India- Saavn, Hungama and Gaana.
