MUMBAI: To cash on the growing digital market, Odyssey, the wholly owned subsidiary of Deccan Chronicle Holdings is all set to flag off a music portal- â€?Odyssey 360o’ early next year.
The music portal is an extension of Odyssey’s retail chain store which houses plethora of music varying from classical music to international hits. As the website claims- From Beatles to Balasubramanium, Yanni to Yesudas, Sting to Srinivas, choose your favourite album at snail pace.
Talking about the new venture, Odyssey 360o business head Harsh Grandhe says, We have been selling music in physical format for more than decade and the consumers have moved to digital platforms. The way of storing and listening music has digitalized and we want to capture that market….

Grandhe points out that the music on the website will range from Bollywood, regional, classical, international and Odyssey has acquired music from all the major music labels down south as other counterparts. Odyssey has also acquired licenses from the licensing bodies- Indian Music Industry (IMI) and South Indian – Music Companies’ Association (SIMCA). For its retail venture, Odyssey stores music from Universal, Venus, EMI-Virgin, T-Sereis, Tips, Virgin, Saregama, Sony Music, Warner and Times Music.
The non availability of flexible downloading options is forcing the consumers towards piracy according to Grandhe. The consumers do not have an understanding of illegitimate music and tend to download pirated music. Also, if provided with legal music destination with an affordable value proposition, consumers would consider downloading legally….
The retail chain operates 45 stores, occupying over 2.5 lakh sq ft of space, across 14 cities of India.
