MUMBAI: In yet another rock versus EDM battle, popular DJ- Deadmau5 hit back at indie rock band Arcade Fire, who made a comment that took a dig at the DJ culture. During the Canadian rockers’ set at the first weekend of Coachella 2014, frontman Win Butler said, “Shout out to all the bands still playing actual instruments at this festival”.
The comment did not seem to sit well with Deadma5, who posted a series of tweets hitting back at the rock band. The progressive house music performer and producer kicked off his Twitter rant with, “S**t to remember: A computer is a tool, not an instrument.” He later followed it with “arcade fire needs to settle down. some dudes devote their lives to instruments, others to electronic composition by cpu, dafuqs yer problem?”
He went on to state an example to his 2 million-odd followers saying, “i dont expect to see daft punk pull a steve vai on stage…i expect to listen to some decent music, n see cool robots. no problem.” However, the DJ was still not done with his rant. In a following tweet he said, “if i wanna watch real artists perform, id pick the opera before wasting a f***ing minute of my life with arcade fire. #do youevenscorebro?

Deadmau5 went on to say a few more things before proclaiming his support of the Opera by calling it a “cesspool of pure skill”. Although it seemed like the end of a distasteful feud, the DJ could not help himself from taking another shot at the dispute less than 24 hours ago tweeting, “so.. back to my fake studio, with my fake gear and non instruments, to make fake music for fakes sake. aspirring to be real one day. #logic
The 33 year old has openly expressed his opinion on social media regardless of whose feathers he ruffles in the process. Last year he invited the wrath of Lady Gaga’s faithful “Little Monsters” when he vented at a video she released called ‘The Abramovic Method Practiced by Lady Gaga’. More recently, he indulged in a Twitter spat with Dutch DJ and record producer Tiesto.
In the past a number of rock musicians have spoken out in defence of the genre, which many feel are being replaced by EDM. Last year, David Grohl, during his Grammy acceptance speech said, “To me, this award means a lot, because it shows the human element of music is what’s important. It’s not about being perfect, it’s not about sounding absolutely correct, it’s not about what goes on in a computer.” During an acceptance speech at the BRIT Awards earlier this year Alex Turner, lead singer for British rock band Arctic Monkeys said, “Rock and roll, it seems like it’s fading away sometimes, but it will never die. And there’s nothing you can do about it.”
