MUMBAI: Since the day of his death, People in Britain ensured they leave no stone unturned in honouring and celebrating Bowie’s life. The latest tribute comes through the Starman’s dominance in the UK Official Charts. David Bowie topped the album chart for his latest release ‘Blackstar’. Bowie’s 25th studio album debuts at number 1 at the charts, finishing the week with combined sales of 146,168. Blackstar also becomes The Starman’s 9th UK Number 1 album.
Adding to that, 19 of David Bowie’s albums feature in the Top 100. Bowie’s ‘Nothing Has Changed- The Very Best Of’- at number 5- is the only re-entered album in the Top 10. With 241,000 album sales, 167,000 singles purchased, the combined sales and streams of Bowie records turned out to be 623,000. Bowie’s tracks were audio streamed 19 million times on popular streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora and others.
Elvis Presley’s ‘If I Can Dream’ retains the second position, whereas Adele’s ‘25’ loses her top spot after seven-week run at the top. Adele finished 31 weeks at the summit across her three albums, beating previous record holder Madonna’s 30 weeks.

In the Singles chart, the top spot once again belonged to Justin Bieber for his single ‘Love Yourself’. Bieber’s single beats Shawn Mendes’ ‘Stitches’ for the top spot by 13,000 chart sales. Bieber’s ‘Sorry’ and ‘What Do You Mean’ slip to third and fourth positions respectively, while Sigala climbs three places up to fifth position for ‘Sweet Lovin’ feat Bryn Christopher’. Bowie’s music was not too far behind in the Singles Chart too. The classic ‘Heroes’ reappeared on the chart at 12th, after finishing 24th on its original release. Thirteen singles re-enter the Top 100, while five of them finished the week in the Top 40.
