MUMBAI: For some, music is a passion, for others it’s a vocation. For entrepreneur and musician Daniel Weber, it is a way of life. Having started off at 20, when he founded his first band, in 2011 The Disparrows was formed with bassist Stephen Tecci and piano player Grant Loosvelt . It’s been a long journey of much toiling, and hard work but looks like it’s all paying off! The band’s hit number Sorry from their third album, Wasting Time, was selected at the Melrose Film Festival 2021. Known to highlights the work of imaginative filmmakers from across the globe, Melrose celebrates the art of visual storytelling in short films, animation and music videos.
Sorry in that sense, is a deeply intricate piece of work. While the music is smooth, Daniel has attempted to focus on the nitty gritties of relationships – the words that hurt, the gestures that had impacted the partners. Created in collaboration with rock, blues and country Singer, songwriter and performer Annie Bosko, the video features Daniel and Annie. It’s directed by James Thomas from Los Angeles.
Talking about the track’s official selection at Melrose, Daniel says, “I am thrilled at the recognition. To even be selected officially is an incredible thing. I am honoured, humbled and grateful that the team at Melrose were moved by our song. For James, and the Band, it was a deeply personal piece of work which we put our heart and soul into. And when it is platformed and showcased at a festival, it helps takes our message to a wider group of audience and listeners. We had a simple thought behind the song – be mindful of what you say when you are angry because words have the weight to hurt others. I feel this idea has resonated widely with the audience and music lovers have appreciated our treatment of the song. James did a brilliant job on the video. I am so proud of the team and I can’t wait to see them again.”
