MUMBAI: Daler Mehndi is poised to become the first Indian songwriter to be designated a `Global Priority` by the Universal Music Publishing Group.The King of Pop, who has been lying low for a while, has been busy re-inventing himself and preparing to return to the pop scene, says a release.
The BBC has announced that his new album, produced by The Wolfmen, will be part of the headline act at the BBC Electric Proms on 26 October 2007, an event that brings together new and established live performers. The 2007 edition will feature stalwarts like Paul McCartney, Kaiser Chiefs, Ray Davies, Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers. Daler will perform new songs from his forthcoming album, Thieves and Liars. The video of the performance will be put online by the BBC.
Daler`s new album`s first track Two Eyes (Do Naina), though unfinished and unmastered, has entered the Top 10 of the BBC Asian Network and has been charting for the last eight weeks, including four weeks at number one, says a release. The track was released last week on iTunes in the category `alternative`, another first for an Indian artiste, says the release.
