MUMBAI: Fresh off their win for Best Rock Band at the Radio City Freedom Awards 2014, Coshish continues to be overwhelmed by the recognition. The winning album, called ‘Firdous’ was released in 2013 under Universal Music India. Post receiving the award, the band has revealed that it is working on new music and a couple of new collaborations.
Speaking on the award, Coshish front-man Mangesh Gandhi said, “The album was in development for 5 years. It feels great to finally get some recognition for all that hard work. Once you win a national award, you are immediately recognised. This recognition leads to opportunities to collaborate with other music artistes.” Since its release, ‘Firdous’ is one of few albums by an Indian independent band to become sold out on Infibeam, WebMall India, Landmark Online, and has also set a milestone for pre-orders on FlipKart.
Gandhi also said that the band aims to make optimum use of the opportunities coming its way. Coshish is currently in negotiations with music artistes for a few interesting collaborations. One of these, which excited the band is excited about is, ‘Roll of Honour’ winner and Indian Sufi singer Zila Khan. The band’s choice of bringing together progressive rock with Hindi has helped them stand out from most other bands in the country.

Along with his lead vocalist role for Coshish, Gandhi is also working on solo material for ‘The Mangroove Project’, which is an instrumental psychedelic sound project led by Gandhi himself. He will next be seen performing acoustic covers of Coshish alongside violinist Ganpath Iyer on 10 December at STFU.
Coshish will be performing in Bangalore on 20 December as a part of Counter Culture, and will have a few college performances in January 2015.
