Composer Hitesh Sonik turns singer

MUMBAI: The first talk for the music of the film ‘Hawa Hawai’ started five years ago but it was only last week that the film was released. The music and the background score was given by Hitesh Sonik and the lyrics were penned by the director of the film Amole Gupte.

Sonik started working on the film’s soundtrack much before Gupte’s ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’ but was stopped mid-way. “It was few months back that I resumed work on it,”said Sonik. The soundtrack has five songs and was unveiled on the Youtube Channel of music label company ZMC (Zee Music Company).

Two months before the release of the film Sonik started working on the background score. “There is no “item”track, but the music is lively and narrative in nature. Amole Gupte has penned the lyrics, which went well with the film as he knew what he wanted the tracks to represent.”

Sonik who loves experimenting said, “I like experimenting with music but giving voice to those tracks is something I refuse. But he (Gupte) persuaded me to sing. I will sing in the future, only if the director wants me to because I am a little reluctant about giving voice to my music.”

Talking about types of lyrics in Bollywood, he said, “I am comfortable experimenting with music and lyrics. I feel the type of lyrics used in a song depends on the need of the film. One cannot put an “item”number if the situation is not needed. There is calling of lyrics like that in a story.”
