MUMBAI: Sales of compilation music in the UK market have increased significantly. New sales data from the Official Charts Company has revealed there was a 7.2 percent rise in 2012. During 2012, ?20.6m of compilation albums were sold.
Compilation albums make up a fifth of all UK albums sold.
Growth has also continued into 2013 with sales increasing by 11.8 per cent in the first three months of this year.

The most popular compilations include the ubiquitous ‘Now That’s What I Call Music’ series as well as specialist volumes.
British Phonographic Industry (BPI) chief executive Geoff Taylor said, “Despite the availability of tracks as individual downloads, compilations – led by the Now series – are confounding expectations and performing better than ever.”
Dance albums have helped the genre grab more than a quarter (25.5%) share of the compilations market for the first time in six years.
