MUMBAI: ‘The Voice: India’ was launched on 19 May by Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ &TV and Endemol Shine Group – India at a special press conference. Present at the event were three of the four coaches – Bollywood musicians Sunidhi Chauhan, Mika Singh, Himesh Reshammiya along with host Karan Tacker. Also present were &TV Business Head Rajesh Iyer and Endemol Shine Group – India MD, CEO Deepak Dhar.
The conference was held on the set of ‘The Voice: India’ with Tacker giving the media sneak peeks and previews of the show, which will premiere on 6 June on &TV. While Shaan, the fourth coach, was not in attendance, his absence was well made up for with extravagant musical performances introducing each of the other judges.
Speaking on the Indian adaptation of the well known international franchise, Reshammiya said, “The show is very unique; unlike any other singing reality show on Indian television. It is a true showcase of original singing talent. No matter how you look or how old you are or how well you present yourself, as long as you have a voice that can sing and impress me enough to turn my chair around ,and want you in my team, that is all that matters. But, I will say this, whoever is in my team; I will give them a break in the industry.”

To that Singh added, “Given the rise of popular singers today, there are still many who want to perform, but are afraid of being judged based on the way they look or the way they dress. Judging the singing prowess on the show is based strictly on the voice. And, that is why I am very excited to be a part of it. Hopefully, now people will not shy away from coming on stage to perform.”
Chauhan further added, “Nowadays, there are many singing-based reality shows in the country. And, every time these are on-air, viewers judge whether the singing talent on the show is genuine or not. I am proud to say that on ‘The Voice’ you will only find good singers. Not average, not even below average. It will start from good to excellent.”
On the show, contestants are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but can only hear the contestant. If they like what they hear, they will push a button that will turn the chair around to face the stage. If more than one coach turns around, the power to pick goes to the singer, who then has the chance to pick his or her coach.
‘The Voice: India’ premieres 6 June, every weekend at 9 PM on &TV.
