Cell phone services ads rule radio

Cellular phone services continued to reign over radio airwaves as one of the top categories of advertisers in the month of July 2008.

Not surprisingly, Tata Teleservices and Bharti Airtel listed as the top advertisers, with their brands Airtel mCheck and Virgin V Bling Phones ruling the roost. Cellular phone services cornered 520,000 seconds of ads across FM stations in the country, according to the Radio Adex data compiled by Tam Media Research, which currently monitors 44 radio stations across seven cities.

Airtel mCheck took over 121,000 seconds of ad spots during the month, while Virgin V Bling Phones came a close second with 119,000 seconds. The other advertisers who figure prominently on radio in the same month are Pantaloons Retail, Reliance Capital Asset Management, L G Electronics, BSNL, Nike, Hindustan Unilver, Kimberley Clark Corporation and Pepsico.

Among the categories, TV channel promotions however continued to hold sway, with 728000 secondages. Independent retailers as advertisers are catching up, with 425,000 secondages, while the category of properties and real estate too holds its own with 348,000 secondages.
