MUMBAI: British punk/rock band The Virginmarys will be performing in India for the first time as a part of LiveViacom18’s EMERGE starting 11 December. Their debut album, titled ‘King of Conflict’, was released in February last year and the band was named Best Breakthrough Act at the 2013 Classic Rock Awards the same year.
The three-piece rock band from Macclesfield, England consists of Ally Dickaty as the lead vocalist, Danny Dolan on drums and Matt Rose on bass. Their music showcases an interesting blend of punk rock, hard rock, psychedelic rock and alternative rock.
Dickaty spoke to Radioandmusic.com about the band’s upcoming India tour and future projects. “We were so excited when we got the call from our agent and found out that we were going to perform in India. It is a place we have always wanted to go to and love. We have always wanted to perform here,” said Dickaty.

‘King of Conflict’ was released under exclusive license with DoubleCross Records which is a part of Cooking Vinyl group of companies. Dickety said that their upcoming sophomore album will be released under Wind Up Records, which boasts an array of independent artistes including Civil Twilight and Five For Fighting.
Talking about their upcoming album, Dickaty said, “It will have the same intensity as ‘King of Conflict’, but will have different flavours. It will continue the progression of the first album.” Dickety also stated since the band has been touring right from the release of its first album, they have been picking up influences from the places they travel to and are writing on the road.
The band seems optimistic about collaborating with Indian music artistes. On that, Dickety said, “It would really be interesting collaborating with someone with an authentic Indian sound, but that said, collaborating with someone with a similar sound would be amazing.” He also stated that one of his musical influences include hip-hop music because, “hip-hop music is lyrically very inspiring.”
The Virginmarys will perform in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi on 12, 13 and 14 November respectively.
