MUMBAI: Different Strokes, an effort of the British Countcil and Guildhall School of Music (UK) brings together Indian and British musicians for a fusion music ensemble on 24 January 2009 in Mumbai.
Different Strokes is a creative music-leadership project that aims to bring together young people and music professionals to bring up a unique concert. Most people in this project are between 17 -30 years of age. Apart from creating an opportunity to bring together musicians from different genres, cultures and geographical locations within India, the project primarily provides an opportunity to young people who have a strong interest in developing their music leadership skills.
A chance conversation in 2006 led to the beginning of this innovative fusion music project between the British Council India
and the Guildhall School of Music. Blending sounds from guitars, drums, tabla, sitar, western flute, keyboard, western jazz and Indian classical vocals, the music is determined by the core group of the ensemble comprising of rock, Indian classical, jazz and western classical composers. Musical leadership is critical to the development of high quality workshop practice. From the larger standpoint, the concert is not just about seeking agreement between cultures but working at listening, creating and acknowledging the differences between them thus fostering an Intercultural Dialogue in music.

The concert will see as many as twenty talented musicians and singers from India and the UK.
