MUMBAI: One ballad from the same film sung differently, one by an actor and the other by the singer, which one is better? Both the versions of the song have been soaring on the Indian iTunes charts. Arijit Singh’s rendition of ‘Samjhawan’ from ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ continues to be at number one on iTunes while close behind it in the second spot is the unplugged version of the track by Alia Bhatt. The race for the top spot will become heated if Bhatt version takes over Singh on iTunes, signaling a singing career for the up and coming actress.
Despite having no musical training, Bhatt’s version of the song has placed second on iTunes, and taken the top spot on Gaana.
Commenting on the same Sony Music Entertainment, marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal said, “The album is a musical package with something for everybody. We always had confidence in the content and we ensured we did a good job marketing and promoting it by focusing on the key driver songs from the movie. Using our proprietary Music Segmentation Study we understood that the songs from the album cuts across geographies and age groups and fine tuned our entire marketing campaign effectively capturing the finer points of the Music Consumer Segmentation study.”
Only time will tell if Bhatt will race ahead Singh for the number one spot on iTunes.
