MUMBAI: Era of the 90s when indie-artistes ruled the music industry was quite an impactful one. Altaf Raja among the rulers who won million hearts with his 1997 album ‘Tum Toh Thehre Pardesi’ keeps himself at a distance from glamorous world- yet managed to maintain his craze among the audience until now. “If I continuously come up with my songs, the charm among the listeners would have been difficult to maintain,” says the singer.
His undying song made his identity for life, which he may carry forever, thinks the vocalist. “Basically, I am a private singer who received recognition through my albums. Bollywood has always been a second option for me. Legendary singers like Jagjit Singh and Anoop Jalota are known and loved for their albums first and its beauty will remain always”.
Altaf’s thoughts on today’s music make him think that as if the present music belongs to 40s- more westernized with vocals dominated by tripping sounds. The fame is casual, common and short-lived of contemporary artistes. Hence, the comparison between the two eras meant to be incomparable.

The songster is soon going to come up with his two albums- Follow up of ‘Tum Toh Thehre Pardesi’ and ‘Mast Mast Teri Aankhein’.
