MUMBAI: With the State Government of Maharashtra lifting a ban on holding events and allowing theatres and cinema halls for public performances with 50 percent occupancy, Pancham Nishad promises to bring back the vibrancy and energy of live concerts with its magnum opus event of devotional music concert “Bolava Vitthal” for music lovers. The concert will be held on the auspicious occasion of Kartiki Ekadashi on Thursday, November 26, 2020, from 5:30 pm onwards at Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium, Kings Circle. The devotional soiree will feature acclaimed classical vocalists Anand Bhate, Devaki Pandit, and Jayateerth Mevundi will enthrall music lovers with the rendition of soulful abhangas in their mellifluous voice. Pancham Nishad has been celebrating ‘Bolava Vitthal’, a concert of devotional music, across several cities in India for the past several years. Graced by globally renowned sterling performers such as Kishoritai Amonkar, Suresh Wadkar, Aruna Sairam, and Shankar Mahadevan to name a few, ‘Bolava Vitthal’ has been a grand success for the last many years in terms of high octane performances from the artistes and the auditoriums being packed with music lovers across India. The concert usually begins with a naman (invocation) also called a ‘Gajar’.
Abhangs are a form of devotional poetry sung in praise of Lord Vitthal, also known colloquially as ‘Vithoba’. The word Abhang literally means a “non-ending” or a continuous process of extolling the divinity of Lord Vithal and celebrating the ‘Bhakti’ tradition of Maharashtra. Bolava Vitthal was initiated with the objective of showcasing this rare folk art of Western India and popularizing it amongst music lovers spread across the globe.
