MUMBAI: Singer/songwriter Bishwadeb Bhaumik, best known under his stage name Deb, recently released the music video for his new single ‘What the Fark’. The music video garnered more than 40,000 views on YouTube in less than 24 hours, and was also right behind A.R. Rahman’s ‘Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera’ in the YouTube India Popular section category for three days.
After ‘What the Fark’, Bhaumik plans to release another music video next month for his second Bengali song, called ‘Emon Manush’. The first Bengali song that the Calcutta-native singer released was ‘Phiriye De’. “The music video showcases a man being back-stabbed, literally, with a knife on his back. I am trying to show how people hurt other people all the time,” said Bhaumik of the track.
Following the release of ‘Emon Manush’, Bhaumik will release a music video for yet another single called ‘Tere Naina’. When pushed for more information on the track, he said, “The track has very club/sufi vibe to it. It has strong influences of Lady Gaga’s music. The sound engineer for the track is Magnus Kaxe, who has been an assistant engineer on tracks for Aqua, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Celine Dion and Westlife.”

Bhaumik further added that all of these tracks will be collated together into an album that he plans to release by the end of this year. The publishing and distribution for the singles and the eventual album is being handled by Universal Music India.
Speaking highly of Bhaumik, Universal Music Publishing India, M.D., Achille Forler said, “Deb is a prolific composer and very gifted for catchy, memorable hooks. His voice too is instantly recognisable. He has a fresh, lateral approach to life that reflects in his music. He is not formatted either by pop-rock or by mainstream Bollywood. And although Bengali is his mother tongue, he is increasingly writing in Hindi and is being mentored by lyricist Manoj Yadav. But we encourage him to continue to write in Bengali too.”
