MUMBAI: One of the oldest sources of music news and destinations for trends and charts- Billboard has joined forces with Chinese music video service YinYueTai (YYT), to develop the first-ever ‘User Generated’ chart in China that will give real-time access to music video data.
The data will be based on more than 50 million registered users and the chart is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2016. The songs chart by Billboard/YYT UG will be socially driven, and videos with the most engagement on YYT’s website will make it to the chart.
The agreement was negotiated with the help of California Music & Arts Consortium CEO- Hu Xiao and For Goodness Sake! media president- Joel Wertman. The deal also allows Billboard’s website to carry YYT’s China V-Chart within the International charts section, which will be updated weekly. It will be made available on Billboard by this month.

The V-Chart includes the most-viewed videos of week on the YYT platform, and it will bring more opportunities for Chinese artists to be recognised on an international platform.

Billboard has been named the leading US brand on Twitter, surpassing the NFL, ESPN, BuzzFeed and MTV, with 6.1 million engaged actions in Q3.
