MUMBAI: RJ Balaji of Big FM Chennai has crossed six million mark on SoundCloud for his ‘Cross Talk’ segment. The evening show RJ with his prank calls and light hearted humour has become an online sensation across the globe.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com RJ Balaji said, When we uploaded the prank call link on SoundCloud we garnered six lakh hits within 24 hours, and today it has recorded six million hits which is a great achievement for us. With growing popularity, SoundCloud has now become a trendsetter as all other radio stations are keenly following and using it. I strongly believe that the content on web has to be very crisp and catchy as compared to radio, and it is our content which has appealed to the listeners and made it so successful. We were the first radio station to start with audio site and now it has become a viral and is spread all across the globe….
Today RJ Balaji’s Facebook page has over six million hits through audio site, 2.75 Lakh profile views on Facebook and 1.23 lakh likes on SoundCloud.
Besides India, most of the downloads were from the US, UK, UAE, Singapore, Seychelles, Germany and Spain, all courtesy the huge Tamil population out there yearning to listen to programmes from Chennai.
In Cross Talk…, RJ Balaji calls up unsuspecting strangers using numbers provided by their friends. He pretends to be everything from the boy next door, a father protesting his son being beaten up to an HR executive offering extravagant salaries.
