Big FM announces second edition of ‘Big Chennaiite Awards’

MUMBAI: Continuing its legacy of celebrating the city’s birthday every year, Big FM Chennai has announced the second edition of ‘Big Chennaiite Awards’.

The awards honour ordinary people who have made significant contribution towards the betterment of society.

At a function held yesterday, the station unveiled the logo of the awards in the presence of singer Mukesh, actor Dinesh and director Ranjith.

As part of a month long celebration, the station launched an exhaustive on-air campaign for Chennaiites to nominate individuals they believe deserve the title for selfless work undertaken towards the betterment of humankind. The final shortlisted nominees will make it to the grand finale, to be hosted in mid-September 2012.

The nomination procedure will involve phone-ins, SMS, social media such as Twitter and Facebook, and on-ground activation across high-footfall areas in the city where people can cast their nominations. If a nomination wins, the station will also gratify people who listed the individual for the award.

Big FM cluster head Kiran Thangarajan said, “In its second successful year in the city, Big FM will appeal to all Chennaiites to nominate a person they believe deserves the title of Big Chennaiite 2012. The initiative is towards giving common people a voice to acknowledge the contributions of individuals who have made a difference to our city and society. We are grateful to the media, our respected jury, celebrities and all Chennaiites for supporting this initiative.”
