You’re known as the world’s first dancing DJ, what was your instant reaction when you were titled this?
It’s something I’m very proud of. Creating a profession out of your passion is something very few people are lucky enough to do. I consider myself extremely blessed to be able to combine both my passion for music & dance into a unique experience that no one has seen before. I truly feel the most alive when I’m on stage and that translates totally into my performance. The reason people enjoy the show so much is because they can connect with the emotions we put out through our dance and the choice of music. Being the world’s first dancing DJ is something I will always be proud of as I represent my country, our culture and our music with passion.
Your recent song Baby Down has already been released, how was your experience working on the song? How could you relate to the song?
Baby Down was a fun experience for me as it was my second single and I really knew the direction I wanted to take it in. I wanted to give my audience a commercial funky dance song and collaborating with Harjaspreet Singh on it made the process much easier because of his vocal talent. It’s a song that anyone and everyone can groove to and I’m very pleased with the response so far!
You have been titled as India’s first dancing DJ; do you have a personal inclination towards dance? If yes, how?
I trained with Shiamak Davar since the age of 4. I’ve grown up doing stage shows and developed that stage presence. It’s something I thrive for. I live for the stage and it truly shows in our performances. I believe dance gives me a sense of freedom, music allows me to express what I’m feeling and the stage makes me feel alive. The 3 together are the most perfect combination for me, which is why I love what I do.
Which dance form are you currently grooving to?
I don’t indulge in any particular dance form as such. I just enjoy music, and whatever it makes me feel is the form I choose.
What are your future plans?
I believe in living in the present and enjoying how far I’ve come. I take one day at a time and my spontaneous nature doesn’t let me think too ahead of time. But I definitely want to expand myself as an artist, perform all over the globe and be recognised for the work I do with love and respect. I also am working on my own brand and it’s something I’m very excited about.
