Bappi Da continues to don golden music hat even after 40 years

MUMBAI: Disco king Bappi Lahiri who started his musical voyage with the film Nanha Shikari in 1973 will complete 40 glorious years in Indian Cinema this year.

Dada has planned grand celebrations with concerts in Kolkatta and Mumbai. Renowned playback singers of the music fraternity will render songs on his compositions and celebrate his success.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com Bappi Da said, “I started my journey in the music industry in 1973 and I complete 40 years in the industry this year. Salaam, Namaskar to Mumbai city without which this day wouldn’t have been possible. I completely owe my success to this city. I was born in Kolkata and earned the title ‘Master Bappi’ but whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. I owe my success to the almighty Siddhivinayak, my parents, family and fans who have supported me all throughout.”

Indian singers including Shaan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Babul Supriyo, Amit Kumar, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sudesh Bhosle and Shreya Ghoshal amongst others will perform on his classics while international artistes like a violinist from South Africa and American Idol will also accompany them on stage.

Bappi Da was the first Indian composer to be in the Grammy jury for the awards in 2012. Dada was nominated at Filmfare for six times, but won only once in 1985 for the movie Sharaabi.

The musical extravaganza organised by West Bengal Government will be held on Bappi Da’s birthday on 27th November in Kolkata, followed by a concert in Mumbai.

Bappi Da, is currently in Los Angeles and is expected to return to the country by August-end.
