BANGALORE: Bangalore’s Bengalee Association’s Tagore Cultural Centre is presenting an eight day heritage cultural festival â€?Gitanjali’ in remembrance of Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary.
The association has taken up the project to display the culture and heritage of Bengal in front of the sizeable population of Bangalore and in turn to raise funds for projects such as: To build a Tagore Cultural Centre Auditorium; to set up a School for slum children.
The program starts on Sunday 10 October with a performance by singer â€?Shann’ at Bangalore’s Palace Grounds. Performances by Music legend Manna Dey follow on Monday; by Kolkata’s Chandrabindu Music Band on Tuesday; by Aurko-The Rocking Music Band of Bangalre on Wednesday; by Sa Re Ga Ma – The Little Champs on Thursday; by Delhi’s Fusion Music Band â€?Indian Ocean on Friday; by Pandit Harisprasad Chaurasia on Saturday; and a performance by â€?Ghazal King’ Jagjit Singh on Sunday, October 17, 2010.
The Bengalee Association runs a public library, organises social activities, performs cultural functions and pursues inter-community cultural exchange. It also ensures that the younger generation is consciously aware of Indian culture and respects Indian traditions.
