Radio City’s Gully Premier League (GPL) a month long activity, with series of matches being played across seven cities for the GPL CUP and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Radio City 91.1 FM COO Ashit Kukian shares the response of GPL in a tid-bit with Poonam Ahuja.
Many radio stations have come up with cricket initiatives earlier, what sets GPL apart?
With cricket fever soaring high, it goes without saying that focus on cricket increases. With Radio City’s GPL we have a seven city campaign bigger than ever. An event on such a large scale has not been done by any radio station. Our focus has always been to recognize talent in our cities be it through Superstar Singer, Navula Don or City Ke Kaminey. With Gully Premier League we add to the cricket fervor and gusto ruling the minds of our listeners and connect to them on ground We are inviting local cricket teams across streets of India to fight against each other for the ultimate GPL trophy.
How has the response been so far?
The response has been phenomenal. We have over 7000 teams registered and have received 4000 registrations in the first four days itself.
How is GPL being promoted?
We are using an extensive 360 degree approach to promote Gully Premier League and integrating the right mix of online, on-ground, print, outdoor and on-air.
What are the on-air activities?
There are regular updates of the matches, highlights of the games in that region and bytes from the players.
As India being captivated by Cricket Fever, are brands supporting the new initiative on Radio?
Gully Premier League has been supported by various sponsors and partners across different cities. Although this was our brand activation, we had a huge traction from leading brands across various sectors. We will be promoting them throughout the campaign in all our communications and provide them the required mileage through our promotions.
What are the preparations for the finals?
Each city will have their semi finals and finals, and the activity is totally focused on the people and the pride of their region in the city, which will encourage and showcase their talent.
